Classical suggestions

One of the essential characteristics of the trance-state used in hypnotherapy is the sensitivity for
suggestions
. The subconscious mind readily accepts messages given to someone in a trance-state.Stereotypical images of hypnosis (as you might encounter in movies or shows) often focus on this aspect of hypnosis; for instance: you now believe you never have smoked or all chocolate will taste like Brussels-sprouts. These kind of simplistic suggestions usually don't keep very long in real life.
Classical suggestions can however, if they are carefuly worded, play a significant part in for instance therapies aiming at behavioural changes and can be used as an addition to other techniques.
